La Marmotte 2018 Bourg d’Oisans – Alpe d’Huez
La Marmotte 2018 Granfondo cycling event from Le Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez back again for this July
Once again La Marmotte 2018 Granfondo will take place in early July (8th), seeing around 7500 cyclists departing in Bourg d’Oisans, head over the Col du Glandon down into the Maurinne Valley, up the Col du Telegraph and over the Col du Galibier, before finishing on the 21 hairpin bends of Alpe d’Huez, a total of 174km with over 500 meters of climbing.
In 2015 damage to the Tunnel du Chambon meant the closure to the road between Bourg d’Oisans and the Col du Lautaret/Col du Galibier which subsequently forced a revised route of last summer’s La Marmotte event. The works to dig a new tunnel are finally finished and the race will once again be on the original clockwise route over the Col du Galibier. It is rumoured that the temporary road on the other side of the valley built for traffic to use during the works, will become a cycling only route, meaning that recreational cyclists will no longer have to use the many dark and dangerous tunnels on the original road to the Col du Galibier.
