Chamonix town center is a busy pedestrianized tourist center, attracted by the breathtaking views, numerous shops and a wide variety of bars and restaurants spilling out onto the streets. During the summer the streets are filled with an interesting mix of international tourists from all parts of the world, seasonal workers and local French. The name of Chamonix brings a number of events, which frequently take place or pass right through the streets of Chamonix.

Biking:

Mountain Biking - The center of Chamonix is the starting point of fantastic valley and balcony trails which reach up and down the valley. Many such as the trails out towards Les Praz and in the forest of Les Bois are suitable for families. As their balcony names suggest Les Petit Balcon Nord and Sud privide more challenging higher altitude rides up and down bother the north and south facing sides of the valley.

La Brevent area is accessed via the new Planpraz gondola very close to the center of Chamonix. This area provides some of the more challenging unforgiving single track in the valley. High altitude trails are louse and rocky. Once in the forest, they become exposed technical with loads of tree roots.

Those that take on and enjoy these trails and usually experienced riders

Road Cycling - Chamonix provides a stunning backdrop to some of the most spectacular cycling in the world. So not only do you have the advantage of day trips to mountain passes made famous by the Tour du France, such as the Le col des Aravis or the Col de la Colombière, but also rides featuring in by both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour du Suisse such as the Col du Grand and Petit St Bernard.

Events:

Time Megeve Mont Blanc Cyclosportive - This Cyclosportive that takes place in early June and attracts around 2000 competitors. Its starts in the valley town of Sallanches and is raced over three different courses, taking in the Col de la Colombiere, Col des Aravis and the col des Saisies. The race finish in Chamonix’s neighboring town of Megève, with the longest course being 140km and totaling 4810meters in climbing, exactly the height of Mont Blanc.

Thanks to its timing in June, the sportive provides the prefect training event for those looking to take on the Etape du Tour or the Marmotte, later in the year.
