Bike Lodging recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of 28 cyclists close to Mont Ventoux this weekend, some of whom became members of the Club des Cingles, by climbing the Mont Ventoux three times in a day. The Domaine, dominated by the impressive peak of Mont Ventoux, surrounded by spectacular grounds, is a perfect location for groups of up to 30 people. It can be rented self-catered, or as in this case, Bike Lodging can arrange catering and hosting services, to take care of you during your trip. In addition the price for a group like this is considerably less that those found when using one of the local hotels.

Thanks to the Tour de France, Mont Ventoux is has become one of the most popular and well know cycling regions of France. Dominated by the impressive peak of Mont Ventoux, the region in norther Provence is perfectly suited for all levels of cyclist and mountain biker, with spectacular circular routes taking you through landscapes of lavender, sunflowers, vineyards, beautiful villages and historic towns. Mont Ventoux Bike Hotel Malaucene

Hotel Malaucenne - Mont Ventoux
Hotel Malaucenne – Mont Ventoux

Introducing one of our most popular hotels in the Mont Ventoux region. The hotel sits right in the heart of Mauaucene at the start of the climb to Mont Ventoux. It’s so close, that from the hotels breakfast terrace, you can watch other cyclists set off on their climb up this famous mountain.

The hotel 18th century former silk farm has been lovingly converted into the beautiful hotel you see today. Each of the nineteen rooms has an en-suite bath or shower room and toilet. They are all individually designed with vintage furniture and items sourced from local favourite second hand dealers. The hotel most recent additions for 2015 are two modern and stylish self-catering lodges both sleeping up to 4 people, built in the expansive grounds.

The 12’000 meters gardens are sheltered from the outside world by ancient stone walls, with plenty of shaded seating beneath well established trees. There are plenty or secluded and private areas to relax and a large swimming pool to cool off in after a hot day.

Mont Ventoux

Not only does the hotel sit at the foot of the Mont Ventoux, one of the Tour de France’s most famous stages, but the region is blessed by the variety of cycling and mountain biking for all levels for all levels. Unlike some locations in the high Alps and Pyrenees, where every day on the bike is a mammoth day in the saddle,  this region has the benefit of a vast variety of cycling and mountain biking. Aside form the obvious three challenging climbs up the Mont Ventoux, there are also more gentle days trips such as passing through vast selection of fantastic wineries, the Massif des Dentelles, beautiful medieval villages such as Le Barroux and Crillon le Brave and the stunning river valley of Le Toulourene.

Louis Saint Joire and Florence, the French ‘parton’ speak perfect English and thoroughly welcomes cyclists to his hotel. They have a great knowledge of cycling and are usually on hand to offer advice for the perfect days ride.

Mont Ventoux trip day 2

Having spent a wonderful evening and night with the owners of the Domaine des Pins discussing the group of 25 cyclists Bike Lodging will be bringing to the property in September, I had a busy morning of meetings, after which I managed to get a short bike ride in.

Firstly I met up with Jean–Michel Hurter the manager at France Bike Rentals in Bedoin. They run a very interesting operation where you can book and pay for your bike rentals online and have them delivered to almost any location in the south east of France. Their delivery charge is calculated by taking into consideration of the number of bikes, rental day and the delivery distance. For larger groups it can even be cost effective to have bikes delivers to locations in the Alps or as far west as the Pyrenees.

Bike Lodging have now secured a partnership with the France Bike Rentals, so that our clients will soon be able search and book their bike rental with the company directly from our own bike rental pages.

After a quick visit to one of our larger businesses in Bedoin who have the capacity for very large groups. I decided to jump on the bike and head over to Malaucene via the Col de La Madeleine, which is a very popular and lower level link between the two villages. Sadly a little too much snow on the Mont Ventoux.

In Malaucene I met with the owner of the hotel Malaucene right at the start of the climb to Mont Ventoux. The hotel has a terrace which over looks the start of the climb, from which clients often cheer home their cycling friends or family after taking on the ‘Géant de Provence’. The majority of the property faces a huge beautiful and secluded garden area and terrace at the back with private swimming pool. The rooms are all individually decorated in a very modern but traditional style. The owners are a lovely English speaking French couple which a huge knowledge and the area

and the cycling. As soon as you enter the reception you can see from the images on the walls and the selections of cycling guides books, that they hugely value their cycling clients.

After an interesting chat with the owner, he recommended a fantactis cycling route back to Bedoin, via Suzette and the impressive Massif des Dentelles, Le Barroux and Corillion Le Brave.

Cant wait for my next trip back there in September, this time hosting a large group of cyclists.

Bike Lodging trip to Bedoin Mont Ventoux

Domaine des Pins17/03/2015 – Enjoying an over night trip down to visit a number of properties and businesses in the Mont Ventoux region. I set of yesterday from the Alps in warm spring sunshine. The weather remained beautiful all the way on the 3 hour trip up until about 10km from Bedoin, when a bit of rain came in. I parked up at my first property just outside Crillion le Brave, a beautiful medieval village clustered together on the a hill top overlooking the Mont Ventoux. The property that I have come to visit and spend the night in is owned by an interesting and charming Hungarian/German couple who moved to France over 50 years ago.  They brought the property 25 years ago and since then it has been used to offer under privileged children and summer holiday house and more recently a romantic location for weddings. Their plans are now to offer the house for groups of cyclist. Despite the inclement weather, the

property is stunning and set in huge grounds with a swimming pool fed from an old Roman well filled from waters sourced direct from the Mont Ventoux. The 15 guest bedrooms which sleep up to 30 are basic but with good beds. Meals taken under in a canopy of trees in a beautiful court yard and on chilly nights in a beautifully converted barn. This property will generally be rented on a self-catered basis, but there is a catering service in the local village who are able to come in and provide meals for large groups.

This September, Bike Lodging, who also offer an outside catering service, will be hosting a group of 24 cyclists at this property.
