Bike Lodging ready to welcome the Highlander Mountain Bike Riders of Hitchin to ride Alpe d’Huez Alpe

Just a few days now before Bike Lodging host a group of mountain bike riders from the company founding member Will Corder’s home town of Hitchin for a big ride weekend on Alpe d’Huez

Bike Lodging are looking forward to welcoming a group of old and new friends to the Oisans region for a mountain bike weekend which sees the group taking on the famous 21 hairpins of Alpe d’Huez, as well as loads of fantastic single track above the resort and into the valley.

We have arranged for the group to be expertly looked after in a beautiful modern chalet in Venosc, complete with modern en-suit bathrooms, hot tub, sauna, games room and a cinema room to watch the world cup rugby. Fingers crossed the beautiful autumn weather holds.

New Bike Lodging Orange 5 Mountain Bike – Velocitybike store and DC Cuctom Velos

Brand new custom designed and built Orange 5 just received from Velocity Bike Store and DC Custom Velos complete with Bike Lodging branding.

Orange5Orange5.BikelodgingBike Lodging are excited to receive ownership of a custom branded Orange 5 27.5″ mountain bike from our friends at Velocity Bike Store and DC Custom Velo’s. Of course this is for advertising  purposes only and will only be used for marketing campaigns and never for fun, by me on our 250km of marked single track in our local resort of Alpe d’Huez. Almost never.. Occasionally. OK I’m off for a ride right now.

VelocitybikestoreVELOCITY BIKE STORE is one of Galway’s fastest growing bike shops and prides itself on it’s ability to provide what can only be described as world class customer care.

VELOCITY BIKE STORE in Galway have created something very unique and customer based. The shop serves it’s purpose as a retail outlet but more importantly it is a social hub where cyclists and bike lovers not only from Galway but across Ireland, can come together, chat, browse, socialise, learn and make new friends.

Dan DC customVELOCITY introduced DC CUSTOM VELOS as it’s in-house customiser back in August 2014. DC was originally an online bike shop based in France setting a completely new standard on how online bike shops should operate as far as customer care, attention to detail and one off custom bicycle builds go.

Due to DC’s  success and reputation VELOCITY BIKE STORE in Co. Galway asked them to be their in house customising team to offer their services to the clients of the shop and other riders across Ireland.

They now specialise in custom bicycle builds, bike customisation, group sets, parts, wheel sets, in house wheel builds and bike accessories, bringing a breath of fresh air to old school way of running a bike shop! They are one of the only independent bike shops in Ireland that operate with this level of specialised care and attention to detail.

DC customFor those wanting something a little bit special, they have a Custom Clients Lounge above the shop in a calm, relaxing and inspirational environment away from the hustle and bustle of the shop floor. There Mark and Dan can take the time to sit down with you and go over your specialist build and come up with a bike that not only rides great but looks great too… we all want a bike that turns heads and gets people talking!

Tring Velo Club – Bedoin Mont Ventoux – Cycling Trip

Tring Velo Club visit Bedoin for their annual cycling trip to take on the Mont Ventoux

We are just back from a successful tailor made cycling trip hosted by Bike Lodging for the Tring Velo Club at the beautiful Domaine de Pins between Crillon Le Brave and Bedoin in the shadow of the Mont Ventoux.

At the Summit of Mont Ventoux 1912m from Bedoin 1617 m elevation gain over 21,8 km

Bike Lodging recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of 28 cyclists close to Mont Ventoux this weekend, some of whom became members of the Club des Cingles, by climbing the Mont Ventoux three times in a day. The Domaine, dominated by the impressive peak of Mont Ventoux, surrounded by spectacular grounds, is a perfect location for groups of up to 30 people. It can be rented self-catered, or as in this case, Bike Lodging can arrange catering and hosting services, to take care of you during your trip. In addition the price for a group like this is considerably less that those found when using one of the local hotels.

Mont Ventoux – Tailor made cycling trip organised by Bike Lodging

This week Bike Lodging will host a group of 27 cyclists for a four day trip to Bedoin, Mont Ventoux.

This Thursday Bike Lodging will be hosting a large group of cyclists in a beautiful property in the shadows of Mont Ventoux, between Bedoin and Crillon le Brave. This trip is part of the expanded services offer by Bike Lodging into tailor made cycling holidays. Struggling to find a competitively priced catered property close to Mont Ventoux, this British cycling club turned to us for assistance in creating their perfect trip. Thanks to our vast network of contacts in the area, we were able to secure an ideal property close to Bedoin for their group size and budget and provide a catering services to come to look after the group for the duration of the stay. The group organiser has been in close contact with us and we have been able to offer advise about travel and bike rental. Bike Lodging will also provide two staff to stay with them at the property and ensure the smooth running of the trip.

Thanks to the Tour de France, Mont Ventoux is has become one of the most popular and well know cycling regions of France. Dominated by the impressive peak of Mont Ventoux, the region in norther Provence is perfectly suited for all levels of cyclist and mountain biker, with spectacular circular routes taking you through landscapes of lavender, sunflowers, vineyards, beautiful villages and historic towns. The last Tour de France stage finish here was in 2013 and was won by eventual tour winner Chris Froome. It is widely speculated that the Mont Ventoux will once again feature in the Tour de France in 2016.

Bike Lodging are a small company based in Le Bourg d’Oisans, close to Alpe d’Huez who help cyclists and mountain bikers find bike friendly accommodation, bike rental, guides or help arrange entire tailor made bike holidays/vacations.

Mega 21 Mountain bike ride Alpe d’Huez October 2015

This October Bike Lodging is running a mountain bike weekend  taking on the famous 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez and parts of the Mega Avalanche Mountain bike track.

Mountain Biking Alpe d’Huez

The Saturday guided ride starts with the valley trail from the village of Venosc, where we have based the group, all the way to Le Bourg d’Oisans. From here we take on the famous 21 hairpin bends to Alpe d’Huez, before climbing further above the resort to Lac Besson. Here our support staff, complete with photographer for the day, will provide the guys with lunch to fuel they need for the rest of the ride. After lunch its straight back into mountain bike mode and time to hit the spectacular cross country trail around the lakes on this high altitude plateau, before doubling back and returning to the valley via the lower sections of the Mega Avalanche trail. From the end of the trail in Allemont, drinks will be offered in a local bar, before taking the valley trails back to the chalet. Once again our support vehicle will be on hand, this time to pick up any riders who don’t fancy the 20km ride back to the base. Total ride distance 70km

The evening entertainment has been kindly provided by the Rugby world cup in the shape of the England v Australia game.

After being expertly looked after in the beautiful chalet, the next day will start with a short shuttle to the village of Huez, located below Alpe d’Huez. Here our group will be guided up the Sarenne river valley all the way up the Col (mountain pass), used in the 2013 Tour De France. Here they will take the single track that runs parallel to the road all the way through the valley, before climbing again to the ski resort of Auris en Oisans. Then there is another short climb through the pastures, with great views over Alpe d’Huez, before tackling possibly our favourite bit of single track in the lower Sarenne valley. Total ride distance 35km

Catered Chalet Venosc

For this weekend, we have chosen to base the group in a beautiful catered chalet in Venosc. The chalet which sleeps up to 12 people in 5 en-suite bedrooms, has all modern facilities such as a professional chef and chalet host, hot tub, sauna, games room, cinema, UK Sky television and an open fireplace.

For more information about this tour, the chalet, or with us organising your own tailor made road cycling and mountain bike holidays, do please contact our team at info@bikelodging.com

Tunnel du Chambon – Alternative route to open October

Update 25th November 2016 – Temporary road now open – Tunnel du Chambon

It has been a long time coming, but the temporary road to replace the collapsed Tunnel du Chambon is now open. There are various restrictions in place. A new permanent tunnel on the original side of the lake is scheduled to be started spring 2016.

http://bourgdoisans.com/noewp_telechargements/!/dl_id/152/titre/route-chambon

The proposed route on the opposite side of the Lac du Chambon looks set to be ready by October

Construction of the new route around  Lac du Chambon

In April 2015 the Tunnel du Chambon linking Grenoble and Le Bourg d’Oisans to La Grave, the Col du Glandon, Briancon and Turin was closed due to the unstable mountain directly above. Since then, this popular cycling and ski tourist  route has been closed to all traffic. This closure resulted in the change of the routes for both the Tour de France and La Marmotte.

In July a temporary new route was agreed upon to be created on the opposite (left hand) side of the lake on an existing walking/mountain bike trail. However work on the new route is slow in places thanks to a large cliff band that sticks out into the lake. 20-30 construction workers are working to create this new road, which will primarily be one way with traffic lights for local traffic. Special measures are being discussed to cater for tourists and cyclists during holiday seasons. Completion of this new road is estimated to be by the end of October 2015.

This however is just a temporary solution and a more permanent route is being discussed.

I chatted with one of our partners today who suggested that the ferry on Lac Chambon is once again in operation and that they are letting cyclists use this service to ride up the Col Du Galibier from Le Bourg d’Oisans.
